Astrologié Beauty’s Spellbinding New Apothecary Collection

It’s very appropriate that Steven and I are in New England visiting his mother this week, because I’ve been swatching a new nail polish collection that is downright wicked. I tried the latest collection from California-based indie polish brand, Astrologié Beauty, and am excited to share my thoughts with you!

The Collection

The Apothecary Collection was launched yesterday, fittingly around the very first day of fall. This collection includes four new exciting shades based off of objects and ingredients one might find in a witch’s lair: Newt, Incendium, Elixer and Nightshade. They’re perfectly on-theme for autumn and Halloween, yet so wearable that they’re sure to dazzle all year round.

NEWT

First up is the shimmery olive green and gold polish, Newt. Named after the folkloric salamander and reminiscent of the skin of a dragon, this shade might be the witchiest of the four. This polish is very self-leveling and looks great in both two or three coats. Two coats gives off a very elegant and light olive tone, while three light coats - which is what I applied for these photos) really intensifies the color and shimmer.

INCENDIUM

These nails are on fire! Incendium is an intense incandescent multi-chrome polish with a blinding foil sheen. Shifting from red to orange to a yellowy gold, this polish looks different in every light and really lives up to its name. In the past, I’ve seen other brands attempt this effect with formulas that are just too thick to really get the smooth effect intended, but this formula by Astrologié is just thin enough to where application was a breeze, yet opaque enough for a vibrant glow in just two coats.

ELIXER

Next up is Elixer, a delicious duochrome lilac to green polish. In direct sunlight, the pink pigment is intense, while in the shade, the green shift is more apparent and looks like a unicorn’s dream (see my swatch photos below for reference.) For those hungry for nostalgia, this polish really reminded me of the shimmering Trendmaster Starcastle toys from the ‘90s. And it’s also my personal favorite from the Apothecary Collection.

NIGHTSHADE

And finally, we have Nightshade, a deep blue to purple duochrome that’s as vast and mysterious as the night sky, with a star-like hint of holographic glitter. In every different lighting scenario, this polish takes on a new hue very reminiscent of a Shiny beetle.

Like any duo or multichrome polish, I recommend 3 very light coats of the product, as opposed to fewer thicker coats. The first coat of Nightshade is going to skew very sheer. But I encourage you to be patient and let it dry well before adding a second thin coat. By the third thin coat, this polish is fully opaque and shifting like crazy!

This is Steven and Steven’s mother’s favorite from the collection, although they both oohed and aahed over all four of the polishes.

I am blown away by the ambition and creativity Astrologié Beauty put into the Apothecary Collection. They make me really excited for fall and Halloween, which is a super important feeling in a year like 2020. Whether your idea of celebrating autumn is by cooking comforting meals, lighting pumpkin scented candles or testing out a Winnie Sanderon makeup tutorial from YouTube, there’s a polish in this collection to match your mood. I cannot wait to see what effects and formulas Astrologié Beauty conjures up next.

Until we meet again!
